New York City Boiler Inspection Changes

Effective January 1, 2009, New York City is implementing a new annual inspection cycle based on changes announced in July 2008. The following outlines key changes to expect:

  • The new inspection cycle will run from November 16th to November 15th of the following year, beginning in November 2009.
  • The 2009 filing year will be shortened, running from January 1, 2009 to November 15, 2009.
  • All annual low pressure boiler inspection reports must be filed within 45 days of the date of inspection.
  • Inspection reports submitted 12 months after the date of inspection will no longer be accepted.
  • An Affirmation of Correction (BO-13) must be filed certifying that any defects found during the annual inspection have been corrected.
  • Failure to file an annual inspection report (including an Affirmation of Correction if defects are found) within the required 45 days will result in a $50 monthly late filing penalty per boiler.
  • Failure to file an annual inspection report will result in a full penalty of $1,000 per boiler.
